The area was originally developed for sheep farming in the 1850's and was part of the continuing Victorian gold rushes. Landsborough and nearby gold leads experienced considerable mining activity through the 1880's and early 20th Century. Mr. Shay was a shepherd in the early days of settlement who tended his flock in the vicinity.
The Shays Flat Estate Vineyard was
established in 1999 by Robert and Isabella Burns as a family
vineyard including their son Martin. It comprises 18.5 ha
with 65% planted to Shiraz, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10%
Sangiovese and 5% Merlot. Click here for more about the vineyard
